Emakhosini🙌🏾

In the South African Dlozi(ancestral)space, regardless of the similarities in the rituals or initiation, there's differences that sets us all apart but belonging under one umbrella- Traditional Healers.

I'll just name a few & you can research further.

Inyanga: The one who can work with or without initiation. A herbalist who works in healing ailments. Yes, some can also have other gifts. But with most, there are specializations as there would be, in the western world.

Igedla: Similar to inyanga, this is a herbalist that dreams about the herbs they'll use to heal. Mostly, they don't require initiation but there are rituals and so on...

ISangoma: This is primarily an African medium who channels the ancestors with song & dance. This type of healer requires initiation. They use a myriad of tools to divine/consult; but the common ones are bones(not all use them), incense/African safe, cards, etc. There are different sects in this fraternity but in essence? All are ruled by a similar code of ethics & conduct.

Umthandazi/Mphrofethi: This is normally a healer that can be faith based, though using ancient methods of healing. Some do get initiated & others just need certain rituals to confirm them as healers. They work with mostly water, healing salts, holy ash & so on.

ISanusi: These are normally classified as abangoma but they are fortune/future tellers. There's initiation but it's rarely ever discussed.

Umlozi: This type of gift normally comes to abangoma nabathandazi. But it's one gift that takes time to grow & not a lot of people know the herbs & initiation yoMlozi, as it's regarded in secrecy. But a lot of them own uVududu (a type of longer shaped whistle which makes a Vududu sound) & communicate with those guides in whistles.

That's all I have for today, folks.

Sekusemini Emakhosini!

Niphile, niphephe, nijabule.

Niyathandwa 💜.

Makhosi 🙌🏾
